Change doesn’t require a majority; it begins with a dedicated few who refuse to accept the status quo.
2. This principle speaks directly to our current global moment—one increasingly defined by the rise of populism, nativism, and extremism. From the United States to Europe, Asia, and Africa, social fragmentation is forcing us to confront difficult questions about the very viability of democracy and its institutions.
3. Following our initial look at the challenges facing the modern global citizen, this episode shifts focus toward the transformative potential of collective action. Our title, “From Fragmentation to Flourishing”, reflects a promise rooted in the power of ordinary people and civic institutions. We contend that the essential pathway to restoring democracy lies not in grand political schemes but in committed local initiatives and engaged citizenship.
4. It is within this spirit of grassroots agency that I am delighted to introduce Liz Webster. As the founder and leading voice of Save British Farming (and Save British Food), Liz heads a movement championing the interests of UK farmers, consumers, and the food industry at large. Alongside her husband, she manages a mixed arable and beef farm in North Wiltshire, grounding her fierce advocacy in direct, lived experience.
5. Liz Webster has emerged as a formidable media presence, passionately defending Britain’s high standards in animal welfare and environmental stewardship—particularly in the wake of post-Brexit trade negotiations. Her campaign work centres on resisting trade deals that, she argues, risk undermining domestic agriculture by allowing an influx of lower-standard imports. Through public mobilisation—including high-profile tractor rallies in Westminster—she and her organisation have galvanised farmers to demand policy reform and reaffirm the strategic value of homegrown food production.
6. In this episode, we explore how such grassroots tenacity informs our broader theme: From Fragmentation to Flourishing: Rebuilding Democracy Through Engaged Citizenship and Civil Society.
